Dr. Yeung Establishes Scholarship Endowment at University of Houston

UHCO alumnus, Simon Yeung, OD, ’81, has established the Yeung Family Scholarship Endowment, a $30,000 gift that will provide scholarship opportunities for students. “The college and its professors have given me so much, I sincerely want to give back. The professors are leaving a legacy of charitable giving, I am learning to follow their footsteps,” he said. He and his wife, Mrs. Constance Yeung, said they hope the endowment will give an opportunity for students to further their careers in optometry.

The family’s foundation, the Yeung Family Foundation, is funding the endowment at UHCO’s Foundation for Education and Research in Vision (FERV).

“Scholarships are critical to attracting and retaining bright students and we are very grateful to the Yeung family for their philanthropy,” Dr. Earl L. Smith III, O.D. ,Ph.D., FAAO, Dean & Greeman-Petty Professor, said.

Dr. Yeung arrived in North America from Hong Kong with $500 in 1973. After finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta, he was admitted to the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO) and completed his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1981. He has been practicing in the Humble area for the last several decades. The couple has two children, Zachary Yeung, a medical resident, and Ryan Yeung, a soon-to-be optometrist (2018) from UHCO.
